o What is it ?
PBNet is a Fido-type driver for the Powerboard BBS package
developed by Scott Brown. It can handle FidoNet, as well as
other networks which are handled in a similar and compatible
way.
The node setup, FidoNet applications, and hub agreements are
beyond the purpose of this text and will not be covered.
o How do I install it on my Powerboard 1.25a BBS ?
Once you have been assigned a node number by the network
administrator, you can basically start receiving and sending
echomail and netmail. You will need to install PBNet.
PBNet consists of 3 key files:
- PBNETOUT.EXE - the PBNet mail exporter
- PBNETIN.EXE - the PBNet mail importer
- PBNET.CFG - configuration file required by both the
exporter and the importer.
PBNet creates and uses the following files:
- POINTERS.IDX This is where the high message pointers are
kept. (PBNET directory)
- *.IDS These are the files PBNet uses to keep track
of the messages in your message base, for the
purpose of building message threads, and for
avoiding duplicate in/out mail.
Do not delete any of these files, they are important to PBNet.
1. To install PBNet, create a PBNET directory off your mailer's
root directory. That is, if you are using FrontDoor, you
might create C:\FD\PBNET\
2. Copy the three files mentioned above to the directory you
just created. (PBNETIN.EXE, PBNETOUT.EXE, PBNET.CFG).
3. Edit PBNET.CFG and change it to reflect your setup.
The variables PBNets needs set are:
BBSAddress - Your BBS's network address (xxx:yyy/zzz)
Ex: BBSAddress = 1:123/456
HUBAddress - Your HUB's network address (xxx:yyy/zzz)
PktPassword - The password used for packet security.
BBSPath - The path to Powerboard's main directory.
MsgBasePath - The path to your message base directory
Ex: MsgBasePath = C:\PB\MESSAGES\
InboundPath - This is the directory where PBNet will look
for the incomming mail packets (*.PKT)
OutboundPath - This is the directory where PBnet will place
outgoing mail packets (*.PKT)
MailerOutPath- This is the mailer's outbound directory, and
it may be different from OutboundPath. PBNet
will put mail for point systems off of your
node in this directory, in .MSG files.
(Hudson Message Format).
AttachPath - This is where files attached to messages are
placed by your
